BOSTON, JANUARY 5, 2017 –

Boston’s own The Stash band will be hosting their first residency at the recently awarded Lizard Lounge in Cambridge. Every Thursday in the month of March will bring a different featured act spanning the gamut of creative music from Bluegrass to Chamber Pop including Boston Bluegrass phenoms The Lonely Heartstring Band and Compass recording artists Laura Cortese & The Dance Cards.

The Stash Band is known for their irreverent treatment of traditional music and wild original music that’s been described by Renowned banjo picker Tony Trischka, as, “Mahavishnu Orchestra meets Frank Zappa meets [country music pioneer] Riley Puckett, an onslaught of beauty, a virtuosic parade with a heart of solid gold, rhythmically chaotic joy, living in the pocket.”

The Stash Band’s recently released album, the Faucet of Love, is a psychedelic kaleidoscope, multi-hybrid expression of Stash’s own musical obsessions. Heavy metal mixed with bluegrass, punk and a call to the snarky bands of yore. It’s deeply entertaining and profoundly weird.

Touted new artist Billy Strings, one of Rolling Stone’s “10 New Country Artists You Need to Know,” is a huge fan of Wyslouch and The Stash! Band. “Stash took flat picking precision and mixed it with tricky arrangements, heavy metal energy and fearless songwriting to make some of the most exciting music I have ever heard. Stash and his band have really broken musical boundaries by doing things that just don’t seem possible on acoustic instruments.”

Added Stash, “I’m always exploring different stuff. I love old-time traditional music with all its weird, extreme, bizarre, obscure areas. I don’t consciously think about making a statement, but rather use my instincts to approach things uniquely. That exploration keeps me satisfied and happy during the time after I get up in the morning. . . At the end of the day, I feel pretty good about it.”

March 1 – The Stash Band + the Lonely Heartstring Band

Rounder Recording Artists The Lonely Heartstring Band are at the top of their field pushing Bluegrass music to new limits with vocal and emotional precision and taste.

"Topnotch instrumentation and a beautiful vocal blend are the cursory reasons to begin forming an allegiance to this band. Their music is addicting, and just like viewing the Grand Canyon, you can't begin to find the words to describe the wonder witnessed."

March 8 – The Stash Band + Alec Spiegelman (Cuddle Magic)

Alec Spiegelman is a musician, producer, and songwriter living in Brooklyn, NY. He is a member of the band Cuddle Magic.

Alec Spiegelman is a Brooklyn-based musician, producer, and songwriter. He is a member of the band Cuddle Magic. As a sideman, on stage and in studio, he’s worked with numerous creative songwriters including Amanda Palmer, Anais Mitchell, Pokey LaFarge, and Will Sheff. He’s arranged and performed the wind instruments on countless recordings, among them three albums by The David Wax Museum, and Kristin Andreassen's Gondolier. He's produced recordings for Jennifer Kimball (formerly of The Story), Anna & Elizabeth, and the conceptual multi-media artist Jack Early. His musical-comedy project (with Kelly Roberge), Ronald Reagan - Boston's Premier 80s Pop Saxophone Duo, has shared stand-up stages with Eugene Mirman, Kristin Schaal, and Reggie Watts. His early musical education included lots of improvising in the jazz tradition (broadly defined), formal studies with Steve Lacy, Bob Moses, Bob Brookmeyer and Ran Blake, and a thorough (informal) grounding in r&b saxophone best-practices (a la Junior Walker) directed by Doo Wop survivor Little Joe Cook.

March 15 – The Stash Band + Brittany Karlson (band)

Bassist and vocalist Brittany Karlson is an adventurous musician with roots in jazz, American fiddle music, and improvised music. Her original music can be described as a dogpile of sounds colliding to create songs joined by improvisers Sam Lisabeth and Jesse Kenas Collins.

March 22 – The Stash Band + Wendy Eisenberg

Wendy Eisenberg is a composer, improviser, and songwriter who works primarily with guitar, banjo, electronics and voice to create experimental, detailed and adventurous soundscapes. Formerly of the bands Birthing Hips (“brainy, noisy punk based in sonic adventure, technical mastery and rejection of the status quo” – NPR)  Wendy’s music is beautifully crafted, while remaining daring and challenging.

March 29 – The Stash Band  + Laura Cortese & The Dance Cards

With their Compass Records debut, CALIFORNIA CALLING, Laura Cortese & the Dance Cards - Valerie Thompson (cello) and Jenna Moynihan (fiddle) break new ground with a bold and elegant new album, based in the lyrical rituals of folk music, exploring new territories of rhythm and sonics.
